If you are keen on some quick bites and modern Indian and fusion cuisine then Hungry J.D. is the place to be! The setting is filled with a chatty air. Evenings come alive with casual banter, making this place even more fun. The ambiance is quirky and typically finished using the Indian Railway theme. Interestingly the name of some famed locales dots the walls of Hungry JD’s. I was indeed very thrilled to be invited by MY SON Chef. K.M. Km Saif The staff imparted royal treatment making me feel at home. Chef Saif left no stones unturned in stirring the most sumptuous dishes to make things more memorable.
I started off by sipping on the most unusual Mojito named the Tulsijito (Basil Leaf mojito comprising of muddled basil leaves, lime, and mint topped with crushed ice & ginger ale.). I took to trying a different type of orange juice with a twist, the Spicy senorita (Orange juice, tomato juice, Tabasco, green chilli, honey, lemon juice, black pepper.) The sweet and spicy flavours were indeed refreshing. After trying out the juices, I couldn’t but resist the delicious Martinis. The preparation was unique and different. I sipped on the Coriander pineapple martini (comprising of fresh coriander, pineapple, jalapeno, sour mix, and black pepper.) too. I truly admired the sweet and sour combination coupling the goodness of fruits, herbs and vegetables. The Cucumber punch (Cucumber, sour mix, cayenne pepper blended with crushed ice) was indeed refreshing too!
After trying on all the drinks I went onwards to satiate my taste buds with some really fancy starters. I shamelessly dug into the lip-smacking Latino cheese vada pav (vada made of potato, chipotle chilli, kidney beans, jalapeno, mixed with cumin, chilli powder, coriander, stuffed with mozzarella cheese, place in pav on a pav layered with chipotle mayo, lettuce, cheese slice, served with fries and chipotle mayo). Another Latino starter I was made to try was the Latino Pani Puri (comprising of fried hollow shells filled with chipotle spiced beans and potato blend, with Pico de Gallo served with jalapeno and coriander spiced water.). The Bhel Puri Salad Italiano (comprising of farfalle pasta, bhel puri mix, tomato, potato, onion cucumber, mixed with chaat masala, aamchur, oregano, fresh mint, basil, olive oil, and fresh coriander) was simply irresistible. I took to the African Savannahs’ as we tried the Zanzibar Mix Indo African Chaat (comprising of potato cubes, mini potato and onion bullets, chickpeas, fries, mint chutney, red spicy tomato chutney, topped with flour & gram flour based sauce and coconut milk). The Alu Phal Chaat (potato cubes , chickpeas, pomegranate seeds, onion, green chillies, pineapple, mixed with lemon juice , mint chutney, fresh coriander, mint, chaat masala, cumin powder, garam masala, red chilli powder, topped with crispy savoury), and the Desi nachos with chatpati chaat (spinach flavoured nachos, topped with chatpati chaat, cheese sauce, and sev) were simply amazing!
After washing down the starters with a vegetarian clear soup, we got to the main course. Some of the dishes I tried included the famed, Veg paprika (comprising of assorted veggies in creamy paprika sauce, served with bell pepper rice and mashed potato.), Dawood Badsha (vegetarian version of the popular Syrian meat balls dish, cottage cheese , spinach & potato balls cooked in tomato sauce spiced with middle eastern spice mix, served with parsley rice), Mchicha (Tanzanian spinach & peanut curry cooked with vegetables in coconut milk , served with coriander rice & sautéed veggies.), Chipotle pizza (completed using pizza dough layered with chipotle red pesto, mushroom, roasted garlic, onion, tomato, topped with feta & mozzarella cheese, available without mushroom also) and last but not the least the Oriental sizzler (comprising of assorted veggies , kung pao potato, Thai potato cheese Cutlet, Veg fried rice / hakka noodles, served with garlic sauce served with optional sauces and rice/noodles). The global platters were indeed enticing and mouth-watering. The servings were plentiful and each dishes was carefully arranged to suit ones tastebuds was clean and inviting all the same.
As I key off I will simply like to state I have never enjoyed a more delicious meal in the fusion category.
