“There is a lot of apathy around us, and a little goodness does no harm.”, chides the smiling Geeta. The philanthropist has extended her helping hand at a plethora of institutions, and selflessly pays out of her own pocket to extend her helping hand to a number of street children and the aged too. “Help doesn’t need a category, one can find help in ones own home.”, quips Geeta Ma (as everyone lovingly addresses her).
VOLUNTEERING JOURNEY

Geeta Ma started her philanthropic journey from the Tata Cancer institute. She was asked to prepare food for cancer patients. She initially started by serving about 30 people, and later even catered to all their needs. It saddened her to learn that there were so many people who were awaiting a free chemotherapy, and were yet not having all the adequate basics to suffice them during the course. It was during her early tenure of serving the patients at the institution did she realized, that it was only little things like this that brought immense joy into her life. Since the last two years Geeta Ma has been organizing a Food Bank (For 30-50 people) where she personally prepares meals with the help of her volunteers Shivalaxmi Shivaraman, and Rakesh Pillai, and serves the same to the genuinely poor people every Sunday. She has done a wonderful job by supporting her volunteers and educating them to conclude their degree in Engineering and MBA respectively. Geeta Ma has also associated with the Teach India foundation. Since the last 8 years we find Ma giving lessons to kids in a plethora of subjects, (barring Hindi and Marathi). She conducts these sessions from 7.30 to 8.30 every evening at Kind Circle (Mumbai). A good Samaritan went onward to praise her selfless services, and in no time she found herself teaching at the BMC School in Sion (E). Geeta Ma finds joy in teaching students how to cook just as well. She teaches Kids at the Sharaddhananda Ashasram (Matunga). She not only teaches the children how to cook, but encourages them in the way of healthy competition, involving fun and games. She has been associated with the Asharam since the past one year owing to her friend who is the principal of this place. Geeta Ma teaches the mentally challenged students of Chembur Slulabha School (for the Mentally challenged) how to cook too. She is simply amazed by the preparations, when competitions are held. Geeta Ma firmly believes that man is God’s medium of serving all those in need. She never tires of her services, and is present at the drop of a hat when required.
